Does your dog ignore your commands?
Does he lunge at other dogs when on or off leash?
Does he show fear or anxiety around people or dogs, or simply when you leave the house?
Perhaps you just want to be proactive in your dog training and avoid any of these negative behaviors from happening in the first place.
At Bark Avenue Montreal we understand that every dog is an individual and needs an individual approach to their training routine. No two dogs are alike. We understand that a dog is a dog no matter the size or breed.
Our approach to training has always been a balanced style with the focus on relationship building. We do this through games and positive reinforcement of correct behaviors. We should always be looking for opportunities throughout the day and especially during their training to help them understand that what they just did was the behavior we are looking for.
When you have specific training needs, a private lesson may be the way to go. Let the team at Bark Avenue Montreal put our years of experience to work for you to solve your issues quickly and effectively.

Private 1-on-1 Lessons
This is a terrific option for hands-on owners who don’t have the time to spend training with their dog on a daily basis.
The largest benefit with these lessons is the personalized attention and customized lesson plans. This will ensure that we are moving at a pace where the dog and owners are all comfortable.
The lessons are broken down into smaller sections. We plan, execute said plan and follow up with a Q&A period at the end.
We ask that everyone who is involved with the dog’s life on a regular basis be part of the private training. This will ensure consistency which is crucial to a dog’s development and mental state.
No two dogs are alike, and because of this we tailor every lesson specifically to your dog’s needs. Depending on what those specific needs are, we offer lessons at our private facility where we can always ensure a safe and secure environment, while adding distractions as needed. We also offer at home lessons (depending on distance there may be a small fee) if that is where you feel the bulk of the problems are.
Both training at home and at our facility have their respective benefits. As long as you are moving forward it is always in the right direction.
Puppy Prep Class
Expecting a new puppy soon? We can certainly help set you up for success. There are many ways to prepare your household for a puppy.
- Feeding schedule
- Crate training
- Potty training
- Nipping
- Over excitement
- The correct moment to reward
Puppy Classes/Proper Socialization
Now that your puppy is safely in your home, What’s next? Where does the rest of the training even begin? Puppies are so excited and want to get into everything at the same time. Here are some of the most popular things we are asked to teach.
- How many times a day does my dog have to pee?
- Do I restrict water?
- How many feedings a day? What is the best food option for my puppy?
- How do I know if I can approach another dog?
- How can I stop the excessive jumping?
- Should I be going to a dog park to socialize my dog? Or is Bark Avenue Montreal the safest option?
Basic Obedience
There are many new and exciting videos and tidbits about how to best train your dog on the internet. What the internet doesn’t tell you is that the 5-minute video you see may have taken 48 hours to arrive at. There is of course nothing wrong with this, except the fact that it gives you unrealistic expectations.
The main points of basic obedience are:
- Sit
- Stay
- Down
- Come
- Wait
- Look
- Heel
Place Command
This is the most taught command. It helps to improve impulse control allowing your dog to think before reacting. The place command can be used in many situations such as when you are trying to cook dinner and you keep tripping over your dog, when the doorbell rings and your dog jumps running and barking at the door or even running out the front door unexpectedly.
The place command gives the dog somewhere to go where he/she cannot be bothered. Somewhere to go where they feel safe and uninterrupted. There are many wonderful uses for the place command.
The Perfect Walk
Walking is the number one way to help you bond with your dog. You are a born leader, lead your dog.
Finding the proper equipment is especially important. Collar, harness, gentle leader, long leash, short leash, flexi leash? It can be difficult to decide which one will be the best match for you and your dog.
Let the Perfect Walk training lesson help you with all your walking needs.
Socialization
As a “general” rule dogs are social animals. They enjoy being around other dogs and humans. Is this for security? Companionship? Affection? Maybe all of it.
Some dogs have a harder time relaxing or engaging in group settings. They may be nervous, anxious, fearful, maybe a bad experience in the past… these are all good reasons to help your dog socialize.
At Bark Avenue Montreal we have taken our 20+ years of experience and created a socialization class in a safe and secure environment. We always have dogs of many different shapes and sizes available to help if necessary. There is never a lack of sociability at Bark Avenue Montreal! Help your dog to enjoy the extras in life!!!
Leash Reactivity
Many dogs struggle when you put them on a leash. Of course we always must have our dogs on leash, especially in the city, so this can become an issue. Even dogs who are perfectly fine with other dogs, that go to a dog daycare or dog park without any problems can become reactive when they are put on a leash. Barking, lunging, growling, spinning, even turning around and redirecting onto the owner are a few of the behaviors we see caused by leash reactivity.
Walking with your dog is supposed to be a relaxing and enjoyable event and constantly struggling will lead many people to walk their dog less, resulting in an even bigger problem and certainly doesn’t help the underlying issue.
Many people end up having to walk their dog in the middle of the night to avoid any confrontations. Let us show you how to take back the leadership role with your walks, assure your dog that there is nothing to be worried about and get you enjoying nice long walks with your dog without having to avoid others.
Day Training
This is a terrific option for clients who have previously done training with us and now feel the dog needs a refresher course. Maybe your dog is pushing the limits? Have his unwanted behaviors started to resurface? Day Training may be exactly what you are looking for.
For a day of Day Training, you can simply drop off your dog between 7am and 8am. Pick up is between 5pm and 6pm. You will receive a 15-minute refresher on what we have done.
Day Training is by appointment only and is dependent upon availability.
BOARD AND TRAIN
Monday to Friday
Our uniquely customized weekends off Board and Train program provides all the benefits of in-kennel professional training without the lengthy separations. This is a perfect option for those who don’t have the time to train with their dog every day due to busy schedules but do have weekends available.
The dog would get dropped off every Monday morning (between 7am and 8am) and will be picked up Friday at the end of the day (between 5pm and 6pm). Your dog will have received a full 5 days of training and at the end of each week you will receive a 45-minute lesson with the Trainer so you can practice over the weekend.
It is extremely beneficial to take your dog home at the end of the week for a couple of reasons.
- It will allow you to practice what your dog has done all week.
- You can see the progress your dog is making from week to week.
- You will find what is easily accomplished and where you may struggle.
- You can bring all issues to our attention when you drop the dog off again on Monday.
- This will keep you involved throughout the entire training process and we will be able to adjust your dogs’ program should it be necessary.
Weekly Board and Train
This program is uniquely designed for dogs who are exhibiting stronger (excessive jumping, no recall) or more dangerous behaviors (possessiveness, biting, reactivity, aggression), just to mention a few.
This seven day a week structured program is the most effective way to help your dog reduce and eventually remove their negative behaviors while replacing them with more appropriate ones.
Your dog will receive training spread out through the entire day. We spread it out into four or five smaller sessions throughout the course of the day.
During their non-training hours they can go into daycare if they are eligible, or we also use a lot of enrichment so boredom is not an issue if they cannot go into daycare.
For every week that your dog is at our facility, 1 private lesson (60-90 minutes) is included. This is to make sure that everyone involved understands the training that has been accomplished and how to move forward with it.
All our Board and Train programs involve a significant amount of socialization or work towards socialization if that is what is needed, a large variety of distraction training, daily exercise, and personalized play time as well as practical training done outside the facility. Our goal is always to create as many real-world scenarios as possible, so your dog is prepared for your everyday routine when they come home to you.
A deposit of $500 is required to reserve your Board and Train spot.
BENEFITS OF A BOARD AND TRAIN
Faster Results
By working with your dog in small increments throughout the day in a repetitive, consistent, and structured environment your dog will retain more information in a shorter period of time.
All-encompassing Training
Depending on the specific needs and objectives of your training program we can include extras such as daycare socialization, training in public and the introduction of specific stimuli that may be an issue for your dog which can be difficult to achieve in the outside world due to safety concerns.
Less Stress
Let us work through the difficult and challenging stages for you. This can be very tedious and time consuming so let us take that stress away from you.
Customizable Programs
We spend a considerable amount of time with your dog which allows us to really get to know them. This helps us in customizing a program that is perfect for his/her specific needs. During the training period we may discover things that we feel need to be worked on that you hadn’t even noticed. Not all tools or methods work the same for all dogs so we can figure out what works best for you and your dog.
